		<description>Life &#38;amp; Dirt
Collaborative Project with DIRT ArtLab (Mils Dacy-Cole &#38;amp; Joshua Waite)https://www.instagram.com/dirt.artlab/

We are in a period of global socio-environmental collapse. Our practice provides a new way to imagine the future, away from the fantasy of unending materialistic growth, towards a reverence for nature. This eco-futurist work combines a number of emerging art practices, bio-art, contemporary designand social commentary.

DIRT Artlab collected organic waste from QVM stalls and used hot-compost” it in a public art installation. Hot-composting uses organic materials to speed up the composting process, reducing it from months to just 18 days. The hot-compost box was presented as the centerpiece and invite the public to commune with the natural process. The nutritious soil was shared with the community at the project’s end, people invited to plant a seed and take it home.

Life &#38;amp; Dirt was created with and realised thanks to support from Testing Grounds Creative Development Sheds program and Queen Victoria Markethttps://www.testing-grounds.com.au/event/creative-development-sheds-life-dirt/

		<description>Sentient Looking For Dates
2020-2021
Sentient Looking For Dates is an algorithmic artwork drawing on posts from the semi-anonymous queer dating platform Lex. Lex caters mainly to an audience of lesbian and bisexual women and non-binary people. Only text can be posted, no photos. Sentient Looking For Dates uses a machine learning algorithm to remix and reimagine these posts, creating new and sometimes bizarre visions of identity and desire in the queer community.
Its output is irregularly updated on instagram www.instagram.com/sentientlookingfordates/

<description>We Make Our Own Luck Here
(2018 - 2020)
Selectively bred white clover (Trifolium repens) plant(s), lab documentation
We Make Our Own Luck Here explores the ways in which culture and biotechnology interact

using four leaf clovers, a symbol for luck.

Using traditional selective breeding methods (mating two plants with desirable traits and planting the seeds) I have created white clover (Trifolium repens) plants with high numbers of four-leaf clovers.

By exploring and modifying the genetics of a plant to create a ‘lucky’ specimen we can play with the ideas of fate and destiny, whether they be genetic or supernatural.

Are lucky four-leaf clovers still lucky if we use science to make them common? Scientists use biotechnology to transform our societies but we can quickly take these innovations for granted. Even antibiotics have gone from being the saviour of humanity to being overused to the point of creating new problems in less than a century. Can we that find joy from biotechnology outside of traditional research? Or should we be critical of how humanity might frivolously use its power?

We Make Our Own Luck Here questions what it means to be born lucky and what to means to work for your luck.
We Make Our Own Luck Here is was displayed at North Carolina State University as part of Art’s Work in Biotechnology (2019). The work was exhibited at Shibuya MTRL FabLab in August 2018. The project is supported by Waseda University.

	Undergrowth
Undergrowth uses ephemeral media that decays over the course of its exhibition. The original ‘ideal’ state of the artwork can never be viewed, calling into question the value of this concept.
Undergrowth was displayed as part of MECA arts festival 2018 the at LaForet Gallery in Harajuku.

		<description>
	Untitled (Fairy Wren Shrine)
Fairy Wren Shrine explores the artist’s connection with nature as a source of inspiration and how to access this in an environment where nature is limited.

Fairy Wrens are small Australian birds that live in resource sharing flocks. They have strong pair and social bonds, both same and opposite-sex but are not sexually monogamous. The young of many different pairings are raised in one nest with all birds providing resources and care for all chicks. The shrine provides a place to reflect on the admirable qualities of the fairy wren and how they can be applied to one’s own life. ‘Fortunes’ with further fairy wren facts can be drawn and signs suggest offerings for if one wants to welcome fairy wren blessings into their life.
Redmond is looking to develop Fairy Wren Shrine into a larger collaborative project on Australian plants and animals. Please contact if interested.
